Beyond Advanced Care Planning

Fully Informed Advanced Care Planning includes considering all legal options. Some people who are living with chronic pain, suffering, or loss of mental fitness choose to hasten their death. One way to do this is by Voluntarily Stopping Eating and Drinking (or VSED), which is legal in all states. Another way is to self-administer lethal medications prescribed by a doctor. This is called Medical Aid in Dying (or MAID). It is legal in 10 states and the District of Columbia.
